TL;DR: Appointment types define the services you offer (like evaluations vs. ongoing sessions) and control session duration, default rates, and CPT codes for billing.
What are appointment types?
Appointment types describe the different kinds of sessions your practice provides. Common examples include:
Evaluations — initial assessments with longer durations
Ongoing sessions — regular treatment appointments
Special services — specific types of therapy or consultations your practice offers
Why appointment types matter
Getting your appointment types set up correctly has a big impact on two key areas:
Scheduling: Each appointment type has a set duration (e.g., 45 minutes for an evaluation), which determines how appointments appear on your calendar and how availability is calculated.
Billing: Appointment types can include default session rates and CPT codes. When you create a session using that appointment type, the rate and codes automatically flow in — no manual entry needed. This makes super bills and invoices faster and more accurate.

Save your appointment type
FAQ
Can I have different rates for the same service type?
Yes — create separate appointment types for each rate. For example, "Evaluation (Insurance)" and "Evaluation (Private Pay)" with different rates.
Do CPT codes automatically appear on invoices?
Yes. When you add default CPT codes to an appointment type, they automatically populate on super bills and invoices for sessions using that type.
Can I edit an appointment type after creating it?
Yes. Go to Settings → Appointment Types, click on the type you want to modify, and update the details.
